Lincoln Elementary Pen Pal ProjectThe junior ELA class took over a Pen Pal Letter project that the senior ELA class began. I was fortunate enough to be one of the five leaders for this project. This project was in collaboration with Lincoln Elementary School and the sophomore ELA class. Each 5th grader at Lincoln had a pen pal either from the sophomore or junior ELA class which whom they sent letters to and received letters from. Not only was their positive feedback from the students and teachers at Lincoln, but also from the sophomore and junior students that participated. This project started with just an idea, but my fellow leaders and I were able to bringing it to a complete and successful fruition. The amount of growth and fun that I experienced with this project was extensive. Even though this project was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my fellow cohorts plans to continue this project into senior year and then pass it on to the next junior class. The hope is that this project will continue to be passed down to future classes in the SEBS ELA.

Bismarck High School PresentationsI had the opportunity to collaborate with a senior ELA student and a few of my fellow junior ELA students to give a presentation on Emotional Intelligence at Bismarck High School (BHS). The presentation and activity were created by the senior student, but junior ELA students were needed to present. I enjoyed getting to work with my fellow classmates and also the students at BHS. It was great to hear what these students had to say in discussion and also to provide them with new information. The students at BHS seemed to enjoy the topic and were very engaged in the presentation.

Devils Lake PresentationsThe junior ELA class went to Devils Lake, ND to give presentations on various topics to freshman at Devils Lake High School. The picture on the left is of my partner and I. We did our presentation on Emotional Intelligence. On the right is a picture of all the junior ELA students who went to Devils Lake to present. As a group we had a lot of fun doing this presentation, we were able to provide new ideas and expand on others for the freshman and we were also able to grow as an ELA class.

Over my two and a half years a the University of Mary, I have spent quite a few hours volunteering at the Soup Cafe in Bismarck. The Soup Cafe has been one of my favorite places to volunteer and I feel that I have grown the most from helping out here. Through volunteering here, I have gotten to know Mark and many of the other regular volunteers. I have also had some amazing conversations with some of the individuals who are served at the cafe. The Soup Cafe is an amazing resource for the Bismarck community and I have been blessed to be able to spend time getting to know all that are involved in making it possible.
