My faculty mentor was Mrs. Nieuwsma, the Chair of the Department of Behavioral Services and a social work professor. I first met Mrs. Nieuwsma when I was a freshman and starting out in the social work program. Mrs. Nieuwsma has helped me progress through the program as a year round student and has also connected me with great resources for my plan as a future social worker. By talking to Mrs. Nieuwsma one on one and through her teaching in the classroom, she has taught me more about not only social work but also about myself. I have enjoyed meeting and learning from her. I am looking forward to having class with her in the future.
Professional Mentor:
Shadoe Sveen
My professional mentor was Shadoe Sveen. Shadoe is a licensed social worker (LBSW) in Mountrail County. Her current position is a Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) case manager with the North Dakota Department of Human Services Aging Services. Her office is in Stanley, ND out of the Mountrail County Social Services. I was fortunate enough to meet in person with Shadoe two times this semester and then three times through phone conferencing. Shadoe has provided me with great information and resources for my future plans of being a social worker in New Town, ND. I have been grateful for my time with Shadoe and plan to stay in touch with her as I finish school and start my career in New Town.
